Water Colour, Part Two

Artist Lalji is perhaps a quarter of Kaka’s age.
He comes on Sundays to teach Kaka
a new way with watercolours.
The two make an amusing pair.
The teacher communicates
with the 97-year-old student
as if he were ten years old.
On the exercise sheets
he learns to use paint minimally
to work the water so as to make the colours move.
The new technique makes him bold.
Now he reaches for the Himalayan range
the burst of light on the snowy peaks.
